What is a Rent Receipt?
A Rent Receipt is a document that recognizes a tenant’s rent payment and is supplied by a landlord or property management. Rent can be collected in a variety of ways:
1. Payment in cash
2. Payment via check
3. Payment by credit card
4. Payment via money order
A receipt should be sent regardless of the manner of payment.
The receipt includes the amount paid, the property address, the source of payment, and, most significantly, the landlord’s signature. It serves as documentation of payment for rent money received.
Issuing a Rental Receipt in Singapore
It is important to provide a rent receipt at the appropriate time. If you receive rental payments, follow the procedures below to create a receipt for the payment:
1. Obtain money from your tenant
The renter pays the landlord the rent in line with their Lease Agreement. If a receipt is required, payment is normally made in cash. The landlord will then record the amount paid as well as the length of the renting period.
2. Create or write the rent receipt and sign it
The receipt must be signed by the landlord because it is the only documentation the renter has that rent was paid.
3. Make a copy for your renter and one for yourself
The receipt will be sent to the renter and should be kept carefully in case the landlord files a claim for nonpayment. Continue reading if you’ve never written a rent receipt before.
